Tape or no tape, the tree was, I must admit, rather impressive for the short time that it managed to hold itself together, even if by the end of <a href="http://www.tromanight.co.uk/" rel="nofollow">Troma night</a> it could only manage to be an impressive, heavily-trimmed, short hedge. Masking tape on the bottom of the tree, surely?
